Church,

What a powerful Pentecost Sunday! I'm so thankful that we have the Holy Spirit living in us! But as Pastor said, the Holy Spirit often goes ignored. He's all powerful, yet He is a gentle giant. Just as Jesus and the Father are one, the Holy Spirit wants to be one with us. When put our faith in Christ, we receive the Holy Spirit. But just like a husband and wife are to become one, that requires a relationship that grows, in trust, in intimacy, in understanding, in agreement. A good relationship is one where BOTH parties put in the effort. We should thank God for the salvation that we receive from Christ. That is a legally binding covenant that God made with us. We couldn't do enough to be with God, because His standard was too high - perfection. So, Jesus Christ paid the price for us with His blood. We accept what He did for us, and now we are saved. This is wonderful, but that is only the beginning. God not only covered our sins to make us in right-standing with Him but sent the ultimate helper to us to be with us forever. Our job is to spend time with Him, the Holy Spirit. To speak to Him, to listen to Him, to walk with Him, be intimate, and vulnerable with Him. That's how a relationship is built.

I think we forget how real the Holy Spirit is. Remember, it's Christ's atonement that gives us access to Him. But just like you can legally be married to your spouse. If you never speak to them, listen to them, spend time with them, YOU ARE MISSING OUT! God wants us to go deeper, grow closer, learn His tendencies, and walk lockstep with Him. I pray that this week we make an effort to grow in our relationship with the Holy Spirit.
