Hey River,

This week I want to focus on Hebrews 12 verses 1-3: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.  And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes of Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.  For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.  Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

These verses resonate with me because anytime that I feel discouraged or like I am up against the world, I can always remember Jesus, who literally went against the entire world just for me.  As the author of Hebrews says, Jesus pioneered our faith, he demonstrated what it would cost for us to live in God’s will.   Jesus was able to ignore his own intentions and aspirations and focus solely on the will of God for his life.  He was able to remove any hinderance and distraction and persevere to the finish line, all the while knowing the incredible hardship and pain he would face.   God’s plan for you and me is not going to be easy; we didn’t choose the easy path through life.  There are constant battles and encumbrances that we don’t see coming, there are losses and pain, sometimes we feel shame and guilt for the past we lived.  But these bumps in the road are exactly what God uses to develop us into His warriors.  Every battle scar is a reminder that God can use anything for His glory and purpose.  Whatever comes tomorrow, we can have the same joy that Jesus had when we go through our difficult situations knowing that God will see us through to the finish line.
