Hey Church,
This week I have been feeling distant from God. I have felt this tug of war between time with Him and my daily responsibilities. I often times think of the story of Mary and Martha. In the Gospel of Luke, Mary and Martha welcome Jesus and His disciples into their home in Bethany. Martha prepares food and takes care of everything for the guests they have, while Mary chooses to sit at Jesus' feet and listen to Him. Martha becomes frustrated with the work she's doing alone and complains to Jesus.
It says here in Luke 10:40-42
“But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to Him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things,
but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
This story really hits my heart lately because I often times feel like Martha. Frustrated with all the struggles in daily life, complaining to Jesus, and being busy with many things. Being a good steward of what we have and taking care of things isn’t bad, but when it takes our focus off of the One true God, we can struggle. He is the One we can rest in, He is the One we can depend on, we find our peace in Him. He said that Mary chose what is better. She chose to sit at His feet and pour out her worship and adoration to Him. We have to lay down our burdens at His feet. I feel a cry in my heart to just tell Him how much we love Him and adore Him. To lay down at His feet and give Him everything. He’s the better thing, I’ll gladly trade all my sorrows and burdens for Him.
Matthew 11:28 , "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.".
