Hey River,

“If I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.” — John 13:14

Following Jesus was never meant to be something we do halfway.

Jesus didn’t just ask us to admire Him. He asked us to follow Him. To lay down our lives, our pride, our plans, our sin, and our shame, and surrender it all at His feet.

When Jesus washed the disciples’ feet, He gave us a picture of what humility and surrender look like. He was willing to get down into the dirt. To lower Himself in humility… He invites us to let Him do the same with us.

Let Him into the mess.

You don’t have to clean yourself up before you come into His presence. You don’t have to hide the parts of your life that you’re ashamed of. When shame tells you to run from God, grace tells you to run to Him! His arms are open wide to you, ready to receive you!

His blood washes us clean.

His grace makes us new.

His love covers what we could never cover ourselves.

And honestly, how could He love us this much?

Knowing we would fail Him. Knowing there would be moments when we chose our own way instead of His. Knowing every sin, every mistake, every time we would fall short, and yet still, He chose the cross..

Jesus laid down His life for us.

So how can we respond?

We lay ours down for Him.

Not because we could ever repay Him, but because He is worthy.

Today, surrender the thing you’ve been holding onto. Open the door you’ve been afraid to let Him enter. Let Him wash your feet. Let Him wash you clean. Let Him have all of you! And not just the parts you’re comfortable giving Him.

He gave everything for us.

He deserves everything from us.

He deserves the highest praise.
