Shine Your Light

Hey River Church!

This week everyone is bombarded with spooky dark things as Halloween is celebrated on Friday. In the midst of all of the ghosts and goblins it can seem that the things of God are pushed to the side. As Christians it is our responsibility to always put Christ to the forefront.

He said if I be lifted up, I will draw all men unto me (John 12:32). It is this time of year that darkness is celebrated and that is why we need to shine the light of Jesus all the more! Light does its best work in dark places. We can't just huddle in the light of other Christians all of the time. It feels good and safe but a candle lit in a room that is already in the light is not the same as a candle in the shadows. We have to take the light to the darkness where there is addiction, disease, poverty, even anger and hatred towards God. Jesus told us that no one lights a candle and then hides it but puts it up in prominent places so that its full purpose and power is seen and felt by all in the house.

Luke 8:16 "16 “No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light." Don't be afraid of the dark! Greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4)! Light always triumphs over darkness! John 1:5 "5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it." Share the love of Christ with someone this week, bring hope to lost and hurting world. Be His hands and feet and run into the darkness of desperation with the light of heaven today!
