Hey Church!
We have been talking about the importance of God's Word in our lives as believers. I taught on Sunday that the Bible has been used over the years as a weapon to cause great harm to groups of being because of taking verses out of context. I discussed that we need the Holy Spirit to help us interpret the scriptures or the "letter of law" will produce death. 2 Corinthians 3:6 NIV "He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life." Part of the new covenant is that we are not bound to the letter of the law but we can grab hold of the eternal and timeless universal spiritual principles behind the letters. The personification of the Word in the life of Jesus of Nazareth shows us a glimpse of God's heart manifest for all to see. Whenever we have questions about interpretations all we have to do is ask ourselves if this represents the character of Christ? Jesus healed, he restored, he forgave, he liberated, he gave hope, he fed spiritual and physical food, he showed compassion and moved out of empathy toward the broken and hurting. Jesus never showed contempt toward the sinner but only the religious self-righteous leaders oppressing them. When we read and study the Bible let us not become like Pharisees in self-righteous judgment towards others but let's put on Jesus and see things the way he does. Ask the Holy Spirit for help.
1 Corinthians 2:12 " What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us."
